Hello all,
For those who are interested in learning more about GUE / DIR and meeting
divers in this realm, this is for you. No previous experience or training is
required, just the desire to have fun and learn:
GUE / DIR / Halcyon Dive Day
Hosted by Precision Diving (Duane Johnson) and Better Diving (Ed Gabe)
Location: Haigh Quarry (Kankakee, IL)
Date: Sunday, June 7, 2009
This is a FREE event: your only expenses are the same as any other dive day (site admission, tank fills, rentals, snacks, etc.)
This is a chance to learn about the DIR & GUE diving philosophy, do some fun diving, and even test dive some Halcyon equipment. Everyone is welcome, from absolute beginner to seasoned diver. Local technical instructor Duane Johnson and GUE Instructor Ed Gabe will give a free presentation on the benefits of DIR and GUE. Unlike many other free diving seminars, you will get a chance to get in the water for a skills demonstration by Duane and Ed to personally see the level of diving
this philosophy has to offer.
In addition to learning about DIR and GUE, we will also have Halcyon
equipment on site for people to try out. We will have Halcyon backplates, single tank wings, surface marker buoys (SMB), and lights. You will only need to supply your regulators and tanks. Volunteers will help get you sized and fitted correctly.
Also with us, we will have multiple scooters. We will have Gavin, X-Scooter, and Mako for people to see how scooters have evolved. We will also be on hand to answer any question regarding these scooters. Since these are our personal equipment, they are for viewing only. Sorry, we don't want to risk our $4,000 scooters being accidentally banged up.
Diving will take place all day Sunday. Haigh Quarry has a lunch stand, and we'll be bringing along some snacks. Haigh Quarry offers good visibility, excellent on-site facilities, lots of things to see under water, and depths to 85'.
Tentative Schedule for Sunday, June 7:
9:00am: Introduction by Duane Johnson: Importance of Higher Diving Education
10:00am: Presentation by Ed Gabe: Intro to GUE and DIR diving
11:00: Skills demonstration dive
12:30pm: More fun diving and equipment test dives
Afternoon: more food and fun diving
RSVP is required.
